There is (almost) never a magic pill.
At no point in your journey as a video marketer will there be a single ‘switch’ that flips and everything starts working.
I remember a bunch of times that I thought that would be the case.
In 2019, we switched to a new format. It produced slightly more views and subscribers, but it was not a breakout hit.
In 2020, we improved the intros of our videos. Average view duration went up, but, once again, nothing crazy happened.
In 2021, we took a step up in our thumbnails. We saw Clickthrough rate climb. But still, it was just a small step up.
We could have reflected on all that effort and gotten depressed. We could have given up. But then, we’d be just like the thousands of others who tried and quit when the going got tough.
So, we persisted. We hired consultants. We spent more time than ever on thumbnails and titles. We listened to our viewers’ comments and feedback. We spent 2023 investing heavily into the scripts and editing of our videos.
The result?
By far, our best year ever on YouTube.
By simply committing to improve until you succeed, you separate yourself from the pack.
Surround yourself with people who have already done it, and your likelihood of success goes up even more.
I hope that 2024 is by far your best year ever.
