When Jeff Bezos has been asked about the culture of Amazon, he cites a collection of 10-15 principles.

Amazonians write strategy documents that are required reading before big meetings. They see their competitors' margin as their opportunity. They compete as if it is still Day One of the company.

But, when pushed, Bezos would admit that the core pillar of the entire Amazon culture is Customer Obsession.

It’s that frame that shortens shipping times, adds more benefits to your Prime membership, and pushes the status quo. 

You need a similar principle for your video marketing.

Audience Obsession.

Who are they? What do they care about? How can you serve them better.

Often, I speak with content creators who are making videos because it is aligned to their interests or serves the needs of their business.

While that can be a starting point, you need to always keep the audience front and center in your process. 

Generate ideas through the lens of audience engagement.

Write scripts with respect for the audience’s time.

Edit with a mind towards their preferences and needs.
