Beginner’s Youtube Data to Focus on
The YouTube studio can be overwhelming. There is so much data that gets tracked and reported.
From the geography of your viewers, to the percentage of people bingeing your content, to the channels in which YouTube is organically promoting your videos.
It’s easy to waste time looking at every dataset instead of doing the thing that creates more results… making more great videos.
So, here are the 3 things that I always look at from old videos, to inform what I do next.
Audience Retention graphs
This will show me if the intro hooked the audience, if certain sections were boring, or if we messed up any other parts of the video.
Impressions + Clickthrough Rate
You cannot look at either of these statistics in a vacuum. A high clickthrough rate on your packaging is nice, but if you’re not getting any impressions, it doesn’t really matter.
Views per day
Did the video accrue all its views in a short period of time, or is it an evergreen piece of content. A library of consistently growing videos is the foundation of a dominant youtube channel.
Look at these three things, then decide what video to make next.
You can slice the data more when you’re 10x bigger anyways.
