A+ Color Grading

🎥 A+ Color Grading

Color grading is a powerful variable in video editing.

With very few clicks, you can turn an ordinary, raw clip into a cinematic masterpiece.

Here’s a before and after from lacapturevisuals on YouTube:

The mood of a video is often set by the harmonious union between many visual elements, which is why color grading is so important. It determines the brightness, vibrancy, and tones of your shots.

One of my favorite examples of this is how the color grading in the Harry Potter movies evolve as the characters and plots develop, and the storylines become more sinister:

The image above is one frame from every scene of every Harry Potter movie turned into a barcode.

You can see how the warm & golden hues welcome you to the series and how it shifts and becomes almost black towards the end.

Color grading influences your viewer more than you know.

The next time you’re playing around in your editing software, see if you can change the mood of a video using only the Color, Brightness, & Tone adjustments.

You may surprise yourself - and your audience.
