Should My Videos be Branded?
On a client call a few weeks ago, I was asked, “Do branded videos work on social media?”
There is not a simple yes/no answer to this question, because a ‘branded’ video can mean a variety of things.
If, by branded video, you mean a corporate jingle, a 5 second motion graphic of your logo, and some bland catchphrase, then no, that doesn’t really work.
But, a subtle inversion of each of these can totally work while accomplishing the goal of making your content recognizable to return viewers.
If you always play the exact same song in your videos, it can absolutely cue your viewers for the sensation of watching something familiar and pleasing.
If there is a graphic that consistently represents your style of video, then it will make your video recognizable instantaneously.
If you have a line or catchphrase that you repeat over and over again, then it will have the same effect of establishing a value or positioning to the audience that sticks with you.
Lately, I’ve been really into fitness content as I try to get myself back in shape.
Nick Bare always says “Go one more”. Andre Crews constantly states he wants to “Redefine Dadbod”. Amir Zandinejad always reminds you to “stay buttery”. Those are catchphrases.
When I see Squat University’s countdown timer or Rosner Performance’s graphs & academic papers, I know I'm going to learn something new.
That’s also branding.
But it’s more agile, and subtle, than the in -your -face branding of linear tv.
Act accordingly.
