Building a Portfolio of Assets

If you talk to a financial advisor, they will tell you about the value of creating a portfolio of assets. Those assets, in time, should start to work on your behalf, increasing your wealth.

I have found that a portfolio of videos works the same way.

And, as you invest your time, focus, and creativity into more and more videos, your likelihood of growth increases non linearly.

Just this past week, I got such a surprise.

This is a short-form video I published 300 days ago.

It did fine for a short-form video that took me less than 30 minutes to record, accruing 20k views and 55 new subscribers in the first 2 weeks after it was published..

I thought that was it. I created a video, published it, and learned that the hook I used was slightly above my baseline for organic performance.

However, during a recent run of successful organic YouTube shorts, this video was re-introduced to the shorts feed.

Now, nearly a year later, there are tens of thousands of new subscribers who like my videos, but haven’t seen this one.

After satisfying a segment of my frequently returning viewers, YouTube had enough data to recommend the video to additional, new users.

It’s a win-win-win. Viewers are mostly satisfied. I get views, subscribers, and paltry compensation for the video. YouTube gets deeper engagement, time on site, and opportunity to display ads.

Short-Form video represents the easiest route to running dozens of similar experiments.

Go step into the arena.
