Their content jumps around all over the place.
One day they’ll do an educational explainer of their core competency, next they’ll do a challenge video, followed by a personality driven vlog.
In their mind, they think it shows off their range. But, in reality, it creates a disjointed experience for a potential audience member.
Here’s a quick exercise that will take less than 2 minutes.
Pull up your YouTube channel, or wherever you post your videos consistently.
Look at the most recent 6 videos.
Imagine that you're someone coming across the channel for the first time. Would you feel confident guessing what the next 3 videos will be about?
If the answer is “no”, you have a problem.
Your range and boundless creativity is not staying within the constraints of a clearly defined audience member. By jumping around you decrease the likelihood of earning return viewers, which is the lifeblood of a healthy account.
Now, if you are still in the early stages that’s fine. Experiment and find something that works.
But you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you’ve found a formula that works and refuse to double down on it.
Once it really works, there will be room and time to experiment in the future, but focus will take you there.
